My love of Alaska started back in 2006 but that visit was unfortunately short lived so ever since I have wanted to go back.
Now is that time however on hearing that Nanna said no way as it was too cold. In passing I said I could drop her in Hawaii and she has taken me up on the offer.
So, we fly to Hawaii and I continue to Alaska where I will be travelling the Dalton Highway (aka The Haul Road) which is used to supply the oil workers at Prudhoe Bay on the Artic Ocean and maintain the oil pipeline. I will then travel around Alaska some more and dip into Canada's Yukon Territory (specifically Dawson City) where I will partake of the sourtoe cocktail amongst other things (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hGzfENx7I-U) . Some more driving around and then back to Anchorage and a return to Honolulu.
Meanwhile Nanna and Aunty Jan will be doing a Hawaiian cruise and then staying beachfront for a week and a half prior to my return. No doubt, relaxing, swimming and shopping will be on the agenda.
After that we all go to the Big Island (Hawaii) to check out Mauna Kea and the lava fields. Might swim with the Manta Rays too if I can find the time.
And thats it. 3 and a half weeks of very different holidays.
